Scientific and Technological Centre of Unique Instrumentation of the Russian Academy of Sciences (STC UI RAS) established as the Central Design Bureau for Unique Instrument Engineering of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 1957. In 1997, the Center acquired the status of an academic Institute.
The Central Design Bureau of the Russian Academy of Sciences was the first-born scientific instrument-making organization of the USSR Academy of Sciences and the second all-academic organization of scientific instrument-making in the entire history of the Russian Academy of Sciences after the Instrument Chamber of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences, founded in 1726. and existed until 1849.
Over the years of its activity, the STC UI RAS has developed about 200 types of scientific instruments and information systems(including the highest category of complexity) on the basis of fundamental and applied research in the field of information technology, scientific instrumentation and optics, produced and implemented more than 3,000 devices, a number of which are of global priority.
STC UI RAS has highly qualified scientific personnel, doctors and PhDs in physical mathematical and technical sciences, whose work in the field of information technology, optics, and scientific instrumentation is of a priority nature.
Conducts postgraduate studies in the direction of highly qualified personnel in Physics and Astronomy. There is a dissertation council in the specialty “Devices and methods of experimental physics” (physical mathematical and technical sciences).

STC UI RAS carries out fundamental, exploratory and applied research in the field of development of instruments and systems for measurement, analysis, control and monitoring based on optical and other physical principles in the following priority areas:

  • development of scientific instruments and systems;
  • optical, acoustic and acousto-optical technologies;
  • optical spectrometry of the UV, visible, IR and terahertz ranges;
  • lasers and laser systems for scientific research and technology;
  • development of image recognition systems;
  • medical and physiotherapy technologies and devices.

STC UI RAS publishes the International Scientific Journal “Physical Bases of Instrumentation” ISSN 2225 -4293, which is included in the list of peer-reviewed scientific publications.
Organizes the annual International Conference “Acousto-optic and radar methods of information measurements and processing” (ARMIMP).
Main research areas of the conference:

  • Methods of mathematical modeling of physical processes in optics and radar. R-functions, atomic functions, wavelets, fractals, and chaos.
  • Generation, emission, propagation, ultra-wideband signals and ultrashort pulses.
  • Physical fundamentals of instrument engineering.

Holds an annual Exhibition “Modern devices for physical research” and International Conference “Modern technologies of scientific instrumentation and information and measurement systems”. The main topic is the development of instruments and technical systems for optics, spectroscopy, radio engineering, transmission, storage and signal processing. Modern achievements in instrument engineering and the development of technical control systems are discussed. Within the framework of the Exhibition-seminar, a plenary session and a round table are held.

The manufacturing sector performs turning and milling of light alloys. Dimensions of products for turning — 250 mm, for milling – 400 × 200 mm. Accuracy class h6-h9. Optical elements of various types: lenses, prisms, filters, mirrors.
